“I AM ENOUGH” - David Bennett’s Story

“Lord my boy was special, and he meant so much to me, and oh I’d love to see him just one more time you see.  All I have are the memories and the moments to recall, so Lord could you tell him, he’s more than a name on a wall.”  These words from the Statler Brothers’ song, More Than A Name On A Wall,” linger in the hearts of those who knew David Bennett.  David died on March 28, 2023 leaving incredible memories of a young man who fostered a strong relationship with God, family, friends, teammates, and acquaintances.  Whether it was the “old soul” in him, he had a genuine fondness for older generations and would rather listen intently to their stories and their wisdom than interact with social media.

In his spare time from little on, David enjoyed building things out of various mediums and even started his own company, David’s Woodworking.  With tools he purchased, he made a variety of artistic pieces that showcased an incredible talent.  His talent was also noted on the soccer field as a goalie.  His strong influence on the field was the willingness to mentor young goalies whether they were teammates or young neighbors or friends.  David was willing to help anyone for he was a kind, generous person.

Other favorite pastimes for him were hunting and fishing, and he had the patience for both.  He could sit for hours on the bank or in the blind and enjoy the attributes of nature.  Whatever he and the family hunted was prayed over and eaten or shared.  David respected nature and enjoyed the challenge of hunting wild boar, deer, game birds and even squirrels.

For David, life also held chronic physical and mental challenges.  Nala, his support dog understood these difficulties and the two melted into a strong companionship.  His love for others also included an ornery streak that would challenge and frustrate those in his path, but no matter the relationship, David was always uplifting others.  He took the time to care and to make a difference in many lives.  Even during difficult times, David was on a journey of joy, love and fulfillment.

The Scholarship amount of $511 represents: Guardian Angel Number 511 which signifies that change is on the horizon.  Life changes can be difficult to deal with at times but just know that the transformation that is happening in your life is right for you.  This angel sends a powerful message to trust that your heart know the way.  So even if you are having a bad day or are feeling inadequate, tell yourself, “I AM ENOUGH,” a phrase that we always wanted David to understand.  If you make a mistake, forgive yourself, move on, and know that you deserve great things.  As you begin your college journey and new direction in life, just know that David would tell you that “YOU ARE ENOUGH!!”

Today David rests healthy and happy in God’s hands, and those of us left behind wonder as George Jones’ paraphrased song lyrics state:

“Lord, I wonder who’s gonna fill David’s shoes? Who’s gonna stand that tall? Much too soon, he left this world! Lord, I wonder who’s gonna fill his shoes?”
