Columbus Public Schools STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Academy wants to help them branch out and grow roots in their career. STEM fosters creativity and innovative thinking and teaches students to become problem-solvers.
Columbus High School
At Columbus High School, the STEM academy provides students with employability and workplace experience in the area of high demand careers at the local, state and national levels. The current focus gives students the skills necessary for specific careers in the Columbus area workforce. Here students are provided with hands-on, problem-base learning experiences that promote innovation & critical thinking.
During the 2016-2017 school year, 69 CHS students received one or more of the 230 certifications awarded. CHS offers certification in mechanical torque, electronic torque, 6 precision measurements (rules & rulers, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, angle gauges & gauge blocks), shop key and digital multimeter 525. 2 local companies Behlen Mfg. and BD also made the commitment to hiring our students. Thamid Ahmed signed for full time employment with Behlen Mfg. to begin his career, while Jesus Marion, Anthony Rayman, Dariana Perales & Blanca Vargas signed for full time employment with BD.
The Columbus Public Schools Foundation also provides dual credit scholarships to Central Community College, in the STEM area.

At Columbus Middle School regular STEM classes begin in 5th grade and continue through 8th.
